9+ years with GPUL, A Coruña's Linux and free software user group — from Board Treasurer to Board Member, now mentoring the new organizing team as FOSS Advocate.

GPUL (Grupo de Programadores e Usuarios de Linux) is a non-profit association based in A Coruña that has promoted free software, open hardware, and free knowledge since 1998. It operates as part of the broader network of Linux user groups and FOSS communities in Galicia.

I joined the board in February 2017 as Board Treasurer, a role I held for over six years until April 2023, when I transitioned to Board Member. In February 2026 I stepped down from the board and became a FOSS Advocate — staying active in the association while handing day-to-day responsibility to a new generation of organizers.

As Treasurer, I managed the association’s finances, sponsorship agreements, legal compliance, and financial reporting, and co-founded HackUDC — building the operational foundation that let it grow from a first edition into events handling budgets of €25,000+ and 500+ attendees.

As Board Member, I helped set GPUL’s strategic direction and coordinated 20+ volunteers across the association’s recurring events — HackUDC, GPUL School, and Atlántica Labs — while strengthening ties with sponsors and universities across Galicia.

Now as FOSS Advocate, my role is to mentor the incoming board and help new members take ownership of GPUL’s initiatives, passing on institutional knowledge built over nearly a decade of involvement.
